Pirates Drop Phillies, 3-2
|
Pittsburgh picked up a win at Exposition Park 1891-1908, bumping off the Philadelphia Phillies, 3-2. Pitcher Matt Gilley was a major reason the Pirates emerged victorious. Gilley yielded 2 runs over 9 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 1, and struck out 8. His record improves to 11-12. The triumph puts Pittsburgh at 46-42 for the season.
Kid Nance, who is tied for 6th in the EL in total bases with 113, came through for Pittsburgh with a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh. The right fielder was a perfect 3 for 3 in the game, including 1 home run and 2 singles. He scored 1 run and collected 2 runs batted in.
"It's nice to step up when your team needs you," said Nance.
