Senators Go Down to Defeat, 3-1
|
Philadelphia and Washington played a hard-fought contest.
The Philadelphia Phillies topped the Washington Senators, 3-1, in Eastern League action at Boundary Field. The standout performance belonged to Philadelphia pitcher and Cincinnati, Ohio, native Bob Black. Jesse Frymire got the save, his 6th in 6 chances.
Philadelphia used a timely hit from three-time All-Star Red Dooin to get the win. The catcher delivered a 2-run triple in the top of the seventh inning to put the Phillies on top, 3-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was huge.
"We're leading the horse race," said Dooin. "But we're not yet in the home stretch."
The first-place Phillies, at 55-41, now lead their division by 2 games.
