Phillies Lose to Giants in Walk-Off
New York Giants starter Addie Joss pitched a strong game against the Philadelphia Phillies at Polo Grounds 1890-1910, leading the Giants to victory, 4-3. New York reliever Nick Auvenshine picked up the win, upping his record to 6-1. Brent Mattern took the loss. With the win, New York raised its record to 41-41.

In the bottom of the fifth, with two out and the game tied, 2-2, fan favorite Bug Holliday won it for New York. With a runner on 2nd, Holliday hit a 2-2 slider from Brent Mattern for a run-scoring single, giving his team the 3-2 win.

"Addie gets tougher when he has to, makes a big pitch when he has to," said New York skipper James Roseman.
