Voyageurs Suffer 4-1 Loss to Smelters
|
The game between Marquette and Grand Marais is in the books, despite a little rain.
The Marquette Smelters picked up a win at Pig Iron Stadium, dropping the Grand Marais Voyageurs, 4-1. Sabino Flores, who leads the WGLA in quality starts with 22, was the difference-maker. The Smelters go to 74-38, putting them first in the Western Great Lakes Association League of Lake Superior.
Marquette third baseman Nicandro Rodríguez contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With two down, he hit a fastball to right field for a run-scoring single. It was his 84th hit of the season and put the Smelters ahead, 2-0.
"I went out and just tried to do my job," said Flores.
