The Syracuse Halites overcame a pretty good performance by Utica left fielder Sotero Gurrola, beating the Half Moons, 8-7, at Salt City Park. Gurrola went 2-4 with a home run. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4. The Eastern Great Lakes Association League of Lake Ontario-leading Halites have a record of 71-43.

The decisive blow was delivered by Antonio Villa in the bottom of the tenth when he hit a run-scoring double off 28-year old right-handed pitcher Carlos Sosa to win the game for Syracuse. The home crowd went nuts.

After the game, Villa lauded his team's effort. "We kept our focus on the task at hand," he said.
