The Ponce Hidalgos besoiled an otherwise fine performance by Santa Isabel catcher Emilio Almaraz by beating the Petisos, 8-5, at Parquecito de Ponce. Almaraz was 4 for 4 with a double, 3 singles, and a walk, while adding 3 RBI. Aramis Martín picked up the win, improving his season record to 8-4. He struck out 6 in 7 innings. Joel Wainwright earned the save for Ponce, his 4th of the year.
Benni Schuetzenuer broke a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the fourth with a run-scoring ground out. It put the Hidalgos in front, 4-3. For the game, Schuetzenuer was 1 for 4.
"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Schuetzenuer said after the game.
The 11th-place Hidalgos lifted their record to 27-38.
