|
The Barranquitas Insignes withstood a fine game by Aguas Buenas right fielder Colm Scroggie at Parquecito de Barranquitas, to upend the Testarudos, 5-4. Scroggie was 1-2 with a home run and 2 walks, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Barranquitas pitcher Aimón Varela earned the win, hiking his record to 3-1. Baldovino Plancarte suffered the loss. Barranquitas currently is in 4th place in the Liga José Padilla División Eugenio Ortiz at 48-40.
Ernesto Valdez went 2 for 3 with 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for Barranquitas. The 19-year old second baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With one out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he broke a 4-4 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Baldovino Plancarte. It was his 18th RBI of the season.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Barranquitas manager Simeón Barrera. "It's usually not just one thing."
