Patillas Shuts Out Maunabo Behind Salazar, 9-0
|
The Maunabo Tranquilos manager was philosophical in the clubhouse following a shutout loss to the Patillas Panaderos. The Tranquilos were overpowered by Patillas starter Gregorio Salazar, who hurled his club to victory, 9-0.
"It was just one of those games -- shake it off and do better next time," Tristán Ochoa said.
Over 9 innings, Salazar blanked Maunabo on 1 hit with no walks and 10 strikeouts.
"I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs because they were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Salazar said.
"I set them up, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."
Up to now Salazar has compiled an ERA of 1.83 with a 13-4 mark over 15 starts. He has 156 strikeouts in 147.2 innings and has held opponents to a .204 batting average.
