Maunabo Gets 5-2 Road Win
|
Salinas got a decent performance from pitcher Gustavo Mendoza, but it wasn't enough to beat the Maunabo Tranquilos. Maunabo won the Parquecito de Salinas contest, 5-2. Mendoza threw 8.0 innings of 7-hit ball for the losing team. Édgar Alejos came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The left-hander allowed 1 run on 4 hits in 4 innings. His record now stands at 1-1. Felix Engel nailed down the save.
Carlos Esparza had a big 2-run home run for the Tranquilos in the top of the fifth inning. With Maunabo leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a sinker from 23-year old right-handed pitcher Gustavo Mendoza and punished it. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the Tranquilos on top, 3-0.
"Nice to tuck this win away," said Esparza.
Maunabo bumps their record to 40-56 with the win.
