Cumana Rallies for 8-5 Victory
|
Guatire got a terrific game from second baseman Juan Fernández. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Cumana, 8-5, in 10 innings. Fernández went 3-5 with 3 singles. He scored 2 runs. The win was credited to 26-year old left-handed pitcher Tomás Ruiz in relief. His record improves to 2-3. Ramón Salas took the loss. Cumana is now 17-17, Guatire 18-16.
The most important at-bat for Cumana came in the top of the tenth inning, when second baseman Eugenio García stroked a 1-1 fastball to center for a run-scoring single, putting Cumana up, 6-5.
"Exciting game to play in," said García. "Getting the win makes it even better."
