The Merida Caballeros picked up a win at Caballeros Ballpark, knocking off the Maracay Jardineros, 7-4. On the mound for Merida was right-hander José Flores. He played a key role in the triumph. In 8 innings, Flores surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 1. He allowed 4 runs. The Caballeros improved their record to 37-29 by beating Maracay.

Villalba, Puerto Rico-born Serapión Chávez came through in the clutch. In the bottom of the eighth, with runners on 2nd and 3rd and the Caballeros trailing 4-3, he hit a 2-run single to center to put Merida on top.

"We'll kick back tonight and enjoy this win," said Flores.
