The Maracaibo Independientes earned a close win over the Valencia Industriales, thanks in part to Luis Almodóvar. The Maracaibo left-hander, who finished 5th in the LO in innings pitched with 275.2 in 1913, played a key role in the 3-2 victory. Almodóvar, who led the LO in wins with 18 in 1912, went the distance for Maracaibo. He gave up 2 runs on 6 hits. The Independientes win now puts them at 30-31.
Lienhart Schaecter was 2-2 with 2 singles and a walk for Maracaibo. With one out and the game tied in the bottom of the seventh inning, Schaecter, who led the LO in on-base percentage with .420 in 1912, had a clutch at-bat. Facing Valencia hurler Baltasar Flores, he hit a sacrifice fly to give the Independientes a 2-1 lead.
