Cumana wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Baldovino Santillán, falling to the Caracas Sultanes, 4-3. Santillán threw 9.0 innings of 6-hit ball for the losing team. The loss makes Cumana 42-31.

Caracas used the timely hitting of Curcio Saenz to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Sultanes on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"Our offense was purring," said Caracas manager Alex McKinnon. "Like a well-oiled machine."
