Diego Contreras was at the head of a Puerto La Cruz hit parade at Campo de los Petroleros. The third baseman went to the plate 6 times and came away with 5 hits, sparking the Timoneles to a nice 13-2 victory over the Maturin Petroleros.

"I told the guys in the dugout, just be thinking about hitting the ball hard somewhere," the sweet-swinging Contreras told reporters after the game. "Seems like it worked out well for us today."

Petroleros skipper Calixto Morales said later that the club gave up "too much plate."

"Not the way we planned it," he said. "Every hitter in the league will rip you when you do that."

Diego Contreras grounded out in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, tripled in the 6th, singled in the 7th, singled in the 8th and hit a two-run triple in the 9th.

In 44 games this season, Contreras is batting .268 with 44 hits and no home runs. He has scored 14 runs and driven in 11.
