Puerto La Cruz took on Cumana in front of a lively crowd.
The Puerto La Cruz Timoneles picked up a win at Estadio de Puerto La Cruz, knocking off the Cumana Atunes, 6-3. Starting pitcher Lisandro Herrera played a key role in the triumph. Disibodo Bermúdez got credit for the save for Puerto La Cruz. It was his 5th of the year.
The game was at a stalemate until center fielder Marco Dueñas came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Cumana pitcher Baldovino Santillán, he hit a full count curveball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Puerto La Cruz on top, 4-3.
"Lisandro made some big pitches when he needed to," said Timoneles manager Egidio Martínez.
Today's win puts Puerto La Cruz at 52-33, while Cumana falls to 42-43.
