Maracaibo Breaks Through for First Win in Campeonato de las Ligas; Now Trails 2-1
The Maracaibo Independientes have closed some of the gap between themselves and the series-leading Merida Caballeros, winning, 10-4, at Caballeros Ballpark. Independientes left fielder Vicente Segovia went 3-5 with a triple and a double. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. The win cuts the deficit facing the Independientes to 2-1 in the best-of-7 Campeonato de las Ligas.

Lienhart Schaecter hit a run-scoring triple off Jorge Rojas in the top of the first, which put the Independientes in front, 1-0. In addition to the triple, Schaecter had 1 single and 1 walk, while going 2 for 4.

"The rain was definitely not preferable," Segovia said. "It worked out fine I guess, but we'll be happy if we see the sun next time."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Caballeros Ballpark in Mérida.
