Barinas beat Barquisimeto in a rain-soaked ballgame.

The Barinas Viajeros downed the Barquisimeto Crepusculares, 5-1, at Campo de Barinas. Stellar pitching by Pero Sogliano had a lot to do with it. The right-hander, who is tied for 3rd in the LO in innings pitched with 155.2, handcuffed his opponent all game. Sogliano, now 8-6, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 9 hits, while striking out 1, walking 1, and allowing 1 run.

Miguel Merino had a big run-scoring double for the Viajeros in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Barinas leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he got a changeup from 26-year old right-handed pitcher Gustavo Cano and swatted a double to left. It was his 12th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Viajeros ahead, 2-0.

"I just tried to make good contact," said Merino.

The Viajeros are now 31-36.
