Wet weather did not postpone the Puerto La Cruz-Cumana ballgame.

Puerto La Cruz catcher Laertes Torres was instrumental in helping the Timoneles triumph, 9-5, over the Cumana Atunes. Torres was 3-4 with 2 doubles, while adding 3 RBI. Aldomiro González, who is tied for 4th in the LE in strikeouts with 74, was the winning pitcher. Over 7 innings, he allowed 5 runs on 8 hits, with 5 walks and no strikeouts.

With Puerto La Cruz leading 6-5 in the top of the eighth, Torres hit a sinker from Tomás Ruiz for a 2-run double. It was his 28th double of the season and put the Timoneles ahead, 8-5.

"It was a solid, all-around game for us," said Puerto La Cruz manager Egidio Martínez.
