Timoneles Rally to Nose Past Angostura
|
Fans witnessed a whale of a game between the Puerto La Cruz Timoneles and Angostura Amargados.
The Puerto La Cruz Timoneles beat the Angostura Amargados, 2-1. Puerto La Cruz pitcher and Quito, Ecuador, native Lisandro Herrera led the way. Herrera, who finished 5th in the LE in ERA with 2.68 in 1908, went the distance for Puerto La Cruz. He gave up 1 run on 7 hits.
In the bottom of the ninth, with one out and the game tied, 1-1, seven-time All-Star Filemón Pignault won it for Puerto La Cruz. With a runner on 3rd, Pignault hit a 1-0 fastball from Eugenio Prieto for a run-scoring single, giving his team the 2-1 win.
"Tough loss," said Angostura manager Stephen Macdonald. "But we'll learn from it."
The victory gives Puerto La Cruz a record of 73-49.
