Baseball fans saw a good contest between the Maracay Jardineros and Maracaibo Independientes.
The Maracay Jardineros locked up a win at Estadio de Maracaibo, knocking off the Maracaibo Independientes, 2-1. On the mound for Maracay was left-hander Reginaldo Alonso. He played a major role in the triumph. The win gives Maracay a season record of 68-55.
Noé Martínez hit a 2-run triple off Iapeto Martínez in the top of the fifth, which put the Jardineros in front, 2-1. Martínez had 2 singles, in addition to the triple. For the game, he went 3 for 5.
"When you win, you always have confidence," said Maracay skipper Alberto Méndez. "Nobody likes to lose. Losing is a downer. That's how we look at it. It's always good to win."
