The Maracaibo Independientes picked up a win at Estadio de Maracaibo, knocking off the Barinas Viajeros, 7-2. Starting pitcher Iapeto Martínez played a key role in the triumph. The win puts the Independientes at 74-51, while the Viajeros drop to 59-69.

With Maracaibo leading 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Martínez hit a 2-run single off Barinas hurler Matthew Bunge. It was the 16th hit of the season for Martínez and put his team ahead, 4-0.

"I always go out there hoping to contribute," said Martínez.
