The Maracaibo Independientes got a strong performance from pitcher Luis Almodóvar, who stymied the Valencia offense en route to a win, 4-1, at Campo de Valencia. The last-place Industriales have dropped 4 straight games.

Maracaibo used the timely hitting of Marcos Torres to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Independientes on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," Torres said after the game.
