Behind a solid performance from center fielder José María Flores, the Maracaibo Independientes defeated the Barinas Viajeros, 15-6. Flores was 4-5 with a triple, a double, and 2 singles, while adding 5 RBI and scoring once for the Independientes. Práxedes Vega, who went 9 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 6 runs on 11 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 2. His record now stands at 16-15. Maracaibo is now 60-59, Barinas 50-68.

Ramón Álvarez had a big run-scoring double for the Independientes in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Maracaibo leading 3-2 and a runner on 1st, he got a fastball from 26-year old left-handed pitcher Nehemías Sandoval and swatted a double to left. It was his 12th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Independientes ahead, 4-2.

"We maximized our offense today," said Maracaibo skipper Baldomero Neave. "That makes everyone's life easier."
