Santiago de Cuba turned a fine outing from starter Edelmiro Orihuela into a victory over the Ciego de Avila Monjes Grises at Terreno de Soneros. The final score was 3-2. Orihuela, the winner, moves to 9-6. He threw 8 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 2 and giving up 4 walks.

Tied up with the Monjes Grises in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Soneros got a boost from pinch hitter Ernesto Castellanos. With the bases loaded, Castellanos saw a 2-1 curveball from Juan Violá and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Santiago de Cuba on top, 2-1.
