Marquette Extends Series Lead in Low-Scoring Affair
The Marquette Smelters moved to within one game of the Pennant Series, downing the visiting Duluth Zeniths at Pig Iron Stadium by a score of 2-1. Smelters right-hander Valerio Álvarez had a strong outing in which he threw 9.0 innings of 4-hit ball. The win gives the Smelters a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-5 Interleague Series.

Álvarez pitched well for Marquette. The right-hander went the distance, allowing 1 run on 4 hits.

"Valerio pounded the strike zone and made good pitches when he needed to," said Marquette manager Randy Silander.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Pig Iron Stadium in Marquette.
