Canseco Helps Ciudad Mexico Take Campeonato Nacional de México Game 1
The stakes were high. Jairo Canseco was ready.

The left-hander turned in a performance for the ages at Estadio Federal, pitching a 9-inning, complete-game shutout to lead the Ciudad Mexico Volcanes to victory in Game 1 of the Campeonato Nacional de México. Canseco held the Monterrey Cerveceros to 4 hits and 3 walks, while striking out 11. The win got the best-of-7 series off to a good start for Ciudad Mexico, which now leads 1-0.

Canseco, a native of Mexico City, Mexico, was dealing all game. He kept Monterrey hitters off-balance, while giving the Volcanes 9 quality innings. Canseco threw 122 pitches, allowing 4 hits and striking out 11.

"Jairo was hitting his spots and everything had life," said Ciudad Mexico manager Tibulo Sandoval.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Estadio Federal in Mexico City.
