Spiders Claim Late Win
Cleveland Spiders starter Walter Thornton pitched a strong game against the Cincinnati Reds at League Park I, leading the Spiders to victory, 4-2. Cleveland reliever Charlie Smith picked up the win, upping his record to 2-1. James Durham absorbed the loss. The Spiders now have a mark of 32-46.

The game was at a stalemate until pinch hitter Ed Konetchy came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Cincinnati pitcher James Durham, he hit a 1-2 cutter for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Cleveland on top, 3-2.

"I'm proud of the boys for pulling through," said Spiders manager Bill Morgan. "The wins don't come easy for this team, but everyone's got an extra jump in their step after a game like this."
