Phillies Top Giants, 6-2
|
The Philadelphia Phillies picked up a win at Polo Grounds 1890-1910, downing the New York Giants, 6-2. On the mound for Philadelphia was right-hander J.P. Haines, who played a pivotal role in the win. Philadelphia is now 36-20, New York 19-37.
Philadelphia used the timely hitting of Marvin Watt to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Phillies on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Watt called getting the win a "good ending to a long game."
