Giants Pull Out Late-Game Win, 3-2
In a low-scoring tilt between the New York Giants and the Pittsburgh Pirates, Jack Sharrott, who is tied for 10th in the EL in strikeouts with 45, was the difference-maker. The New York right-hander spearheaded the 3-2 win in 11 innings. Fred Burchell, credited with the win in relief, is now 1-1. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1 innings. The last-place Giants now sit at 22-38.

When he batted in the bottom of the 11th, John Gruber had a golden opportunity to change the game's outcome. Pittsburgh pitcher Andy Coakley was determined not to let him. But with one out, Gruber drew a walk, driving in 1 run -- and the Giants had a suspense-filled triumph.

"Exhilarating win," said Sharrott.
