3-2 Loss Extends Cienfuegos Skid
|
Starting pitcher Tristán Ruiz gave the Habana Leones a rock-solid effort. The Carolina, Puerto Rico native helped his team defeat the Cienfuegos Elefantes, 3-2, at Parque de los Leones. Ruiz picked up the win for Habana, going 7 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 4 hits. He now sports a record of 2-0. Antonio Maldonado sewed up the save, his 1st.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the seventh, with the game tied, Nerón González was at the plate when Habana scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Leones to go in front, 3-2.
González said, "Whether you hit the ball hard, you walk, you have a long at-bat, 10 or 12 pitches, or you hit a homer, you're just trying to do anything you can do to help the team win."
Cienfuegos now has a record of 0-6.
