Velásquez Pops Two Homers in 3-1 Win for Manzanillo
|
Both offenses were relatively subdued at Campo de los Martenos. Fortunately for the Manzanillo Martenos, though, Miqueas Velásquez was able to deliver in the clutch. He hit 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice, to lead his team past the Santiago de Cuba Soneros, 3-1. Víctor Rivera got credit for the save for Manzanillo. It was his 2nd of the year. The winning streak has now reached 5 games for Manzanillo.
With Manzanillo leading 1-0 in the bottom of the third, Velásquez batted against Santiago de Cuba pitcher Manuel Zendejas. Velásquez hit a slider to right-center for a 2-run home run. His 4th home run of the season put the Martenos on top, 3-0.
"You've got to ride the highs and the lows in baseball in order to succeed," Velásquez told the Manzanillo Times. "Right now I'm feeling good, but that don't mean squat for tomorrow."
