Guantanamo and Bayamo duked it out and the Cocoteros came out victorious.
The Guantanamo Cocoteros beat the Bayamo Rafagas, 4-1, at Estadio de Bayamo. Starting pitcher Cancio Compte was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. Compte, now 3-3, was the winner. In 7.2 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 3, walking 4, and allowing 1 run. Ulises Ramírez earned the save for Guantanamo, his 3rd.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Federico García? The five-time All-Star García stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the seventh inning to put Guantanamo up, 3-1. For the game, he was 2 for 5, including 1 double and 1 single.
Guantanamo manager Miguel Morales commended his team for exhibiting "no shortage of effort."
With the win, Guantanamo pushed its record to 21-19.
