Eager fans turned out for a matchup between the Artemisa Rojos and Mayabeque Alacranes.
The Artemisa Rojos beat the Mayabeque Alacranes, 3-2. Artemisa pitcher and Cayey, Puerto Rico, native Ramón Contreras led the way. Contreras, who finished 2nd in the TOCC in wins with 18 in 1913, went the distance for Artemisa. He gave up 2 runs on 7 hits.
Trevor Hawkins drew 1 walk. He drove in 2 runs for Artemisa. With two out and the game tied in the bottom of the sixth inning, Hawkins, who finished 5th in the TOCC in triples with 21 in 1911, had a clutch at-bat. Facing Mayabeque hurler Jean Doucet, he drew a walk, driving in 1 run to give the Rojos a 3-2 lead.
Hawkins called the win a testament to his team's "tenacity."
The triumph puts Artemisa at 30-18 for the season.
