The rain came, as predicted, but the Holguin Pericos and Ciego de Avila Monjes Grises were able to complete their ballgame.
The Holguin Pericos picked up a win at Recinto Deportivo de Holguin, knocking off the Ciego de Avila Monjes Grises, 4-3. Starting pitcher Atilano Castaño played a key role in the triumph. Castaño picked up the win for Holguin, going 7.2 innings. He gave up 3 runs on 6 hits. He now sports a record of 6-4.
Rolando Pérez drove in one run for Holguin. With one out and the game tied in the bottom of the seventh inning, Pérez, who finished 4th in the TORI in RBI with 88 in 1910, had a clutch at-bat. Facing Ciego de Avila hurler Alfonso López, he grounded out, driving in 1 run to give the Pericos a 4-3 lead.
"We just try to have good at-bats, whether we're winning, losing, or tied," said Pérez.
The Pericos now own a record of 34-25.
