Leopardos Suffer 6-3 Loss to Henequeneros
|
Getting a good performance from left fielder Adrián Favela, the Matanzas Henequeneros defeated the Santa Clara Leopardos, 6-3. Favela was 3 for 5 with a double and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Henequeneros. Juan Valdez, the winner, goes to 8-7. He allowed 3 runs on 7 hits, with 5 walks and 1 strikeout over 5 innings. Alrigo Martínez finished to wrap up his 12th save.
With Matanzas leading 4-3 in the top of the fifth, Favela hit a run-scoring single off Santa Clara hurler Velimir Marinković. It was the 40th hit of the season for Favela and put his team ahead, 5-3.
"They played a better game than we did," said Santa Clara skipper Héctor Montoya.
The first-place Henequeneros now have a win-loss record of 40-30.
