Riding the 3-hit performance of the 25-year old left fielder Rafael Martínez, the Mayabeque Alacranes defeated the Cienfuegos Elefantes, 5-2. Berengario Leija was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 19 of 22 save opportunities. The Elefantes, now 33-50, have lost 6 in a row.

Martínez had a game-changing triple in the top of the seventh. On a 2-0 cutter from Hernán Mendoza, he banged a run-scoring triple to right-center, giving the Alacranes a 3-2 lead. It was the 11th triple of the year for Martínez.

"We've hit a rough patch right now," said Cienfuegos skipper Gustavo Boites.
