|
Habana Leones starter Vicente Melchor found his groove in his team's 7-0 win over the Santa Clara Leopardos. With this game in the books, Habana is 46-45, Santa Clara 37-53.
Melchor, who has sometimes raised the ire of coaches and teammates with his famously lackadaisical work ethic, turned in a spirited effort. The hurler struck out 4 in 8.2 innings and gave up no runs.
Melchor, who finished 2nd in the TOCC in wins with 17 in 1912, moves to 12-7 on the year with 80 strikeouts.
"We put it together and came out with the win," Melchor said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
