Soneros Sneak Past Escultores, 8-7
The Santiago de Cuba Soneros defeated the Las Tunas Escultores, 8-7, in 14 innings. Alex Thompson, who finished 3rd in the TORI in RBI with 64 last year, played a big role. Thompson was 2-5 with 2 doubles and 2 walks, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for the Soneros in the win. Clemente Gutiérrez, now 3-3, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 3 innings. The second-place Soneros are 54-48.

The game was still up for grabs in the bottom of the 14th. With one out, Thompson hit a fastball from Diego Silva for a run-scoring double. The Soneros, in dramatic fashion, had a walk-off win.

"That was high adrenalin and it was fun," Thompson said.
