Pinar del Rio Gets Another L

Mayabeque pitcher Diego Arocho had a large part in his team subduing the Pinar del Rio Guajiros, 3-2. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the left-hander. Arocho got the win, improving to 12-7. He gave up 6 hits and walked 2 over 9 innings. He allowed 2 runs. Their 54-51 record puts the Alacranes third in the Torneo Occidental La Habana.
Mayabeque used a well-timed hit by Felipe Banderas to capture the win. The right fielder socked a run-scoring double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Alacranes ahead, 2-0. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it was important.
"That's baseball," said Pinar del Rio manager José Martín. "You're not always going to be hitting on all cylinders."
