Alberto Mero did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to spare the Jalisco Jinetes an extra-inning, 7-6 loss to the Coahuila Carboneros at Campo de Guadalajara. Mero went 3 for 4 with a triple, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Picking up the save was 25-year old left-handed pitcher Gualberto Caldera. The Norte-leading Carboneros are 49-34.

Salvador Zúñiga drew 1 walk for Coahuila. With one out and the game tied in the top of the tenth inning, Zúñiga, who is a four-time All-Star, had a clutch at-bat. Facing Jalisco hurler Illán Romero, he grounded out, driving in 1 run to give the Carboneros a 7-6 lead.

"It wasn't our best performance," said Zúñiga, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
