Algodoneros Saddle Colibris with 4-2 Loss
|
The Mexicali Algodoneros racked up a win at Estadio de Mexicali, bumping off the Nuevo Laredo Colibris, 4-2. Augurio Marín, who started for Mexicali, pitched effectively for his team. Héctor Vargas, who finished 5th in the LN in saves with 12 in 1911, nailed down the save. Mexicali goes to 44-45, Nuevo Laredo to 46-43.
The Algodoneros got a big at-bat from first baseman Atanasio Peñaflor. For the game, Peñaflor was 1-3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the first, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 8th home run of the season gave Mexicali a 2-0 lead.
Said losing manager Luis Estrada: "'I liked the effort, just not the results."
