The Veracruz Vigias got a stellar effort from pitcher Pablo Peres, helping Veracruz score a win over the visiting Acapulco Aztecas, 2-1. Veracruz is 4th in the Sur with a record of 54-44.

Up to bat in the bottom of the ninth, slick-fielding second baseman Ronaldo Morales had a chance to be the hero. Acapulco pitcher Morrigan Moore wanted to foil that plan. But with one out, Morales hit a sacrifice fly. The Vigias had themselves a thrilling win.

"This place sure got loud," said Steve Cuff, the Veracruz manager.
