The excitement level at Jardines de Pachuca reached a crescendo in the final at-bat.

Veracruz got a terrific performance from pitcher Matías Ochoa, but it wasn't enough to beat the Hidalgo Cornicos. Hidalgo won the Jardines de Pachuca contest, 4-3. Ochoa threw 7.1 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. Hidalgo reliever Guadalupe Macías snagged the win, upping his record to 1-0. Neftalí Montes shouldered the loss.

Hidalgo got a knockout punch from Teucro Donayre. The pinch hitter hammered a 2-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the game. It might've been his only hit, but it decided the outcome.

"There's still time to turn this season around," said Donayre.

Hidalgo is now 49-59, Veracruz 57-51.
