Newport pitcher Gareth Cummings did his part in helping his team defeat the Swansea Copper Lords, 4-2. The opposition could never get too much going against the right-hander. Cummings yielded 2 runs over 9 innings to notch the win. He scattered 8 hits, walked 2, and struck out 4. His record improves to 3-5. The Stevedores raised their record to 12-26.

Newport used a timely hit from Cathmor Higgins to get the win. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Stevedores ahead, 3-2. It might've been his only hit, but it did the trick.

"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Newport skipper Tim McKee.
