Barons Come Up Short at Sheffield, 4-3
|
Jérôme Soulie pitched well, but his team, the Winchester Barons, still dropped a 4-3 decision to the Sheffield Talons at Talons Grounds. The winner was Harvey Frank, who threw 132 pitches over 8 innings. The left-hander was charged with 3 runs on 7 hits. The save went to Laureano Pagán, his 9th this season.
The Talons got a big at-bat from third baseman Shingo Takeshita. For the game, Takeshita went 1-2 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fourth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 1st home run of the season gave Sheffield a 4-2 lead.
"In baseball, you have your ups and downs," said Winchester manager Bill Wicks. "You just try to stay level-headed the whole time."
The 5th-place Talons improved to 40-49.
