The Swansea Copper Lords knocked off the Newport Stevedores, 5-2, in Baseball Federation of England & Wales action at Copper Lords Ballpark. Swansea pitcher and Inagi, Japan, native Yoshihiro Yamasaki had an outstanding performance. Luis Alvelo earned the save for Swansea, his 1st. The second-place Copper Lords are 54-45.
Had Anthony Tipping not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Tipping hit a 2-run single. That made the score 4-2, in favor of the Copper Lords.
"They played a better game than we did," said Newport skipper Tim McKee.
