Layabouts Even With Hollyhocks After Home Win
|
The Lubbock Layabouts and the Santa Fe Hollyhocks will take the Interdivisional Series to a decisive 5th game. In a must-win situation, the Layabouts beat the Hollyhocks, 7-4, at Lubbock Grounds to force the series into what will essentially be a one-game playoff. Lubbock center fielder Pablo Castillo went 3 for 4 with 3 singles, while scoring 2.
Benjamin Kirchmann drew 1 walk in 4 trips to the plate for Lubbock. With one out and the game tied in the bottom of the seventh inning, Kirchmann had a clutch at-bat. Facing Santa Fe hurler Frank Groves, he drew a walk, driving in 1 run to give the Layabouts a 2-1 lead.
"The competition leap this year was tough to adjust to and I feel like there has been another jump in the playoffs," said Kirchmann, a rookie this season. "You're only playing the best now and everyone has time to rest and prepare for you."
The next game is set to be played for Tuesday, August 25th , 1914 at Santa Fe Stadium in Santa Fe.
