Salmon Suffer 11-2 Setback
Rain could not dampen the pregame excitement of Cork fans. But the subsequent loss, and a disappointing one at that, to the Gandelows had to.

The Limerick Gandelows soundly defeated the Cork Salmon, 11-2, at Salmon Stadium. Tarquino Granado, who is tied for 10th in the BFS&I in bases on balls with 43, let his bat do the talking. He was 3 for 5 with a double and 2 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 3 for Limerick. The winner was Ordoño Ortega, who threw 124 pitches over 9 innings. The right-hander was charged with 2 runs on 10 hits.

Had Granado not come through in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have changed. Instead, with two down, Granado hit a run-scoring single. The Gandelows never looked back after taking the 3-2 lead.

"That was not our best effort," said Cork skipper Tricky Nichols.

The Gandelows win now puts them at 58-43.
