The Talons faced a stiff challenge from Birmingham pitcher Cástico Reyna, but persevered to claim a win at Talons Grounds. The final score was 1-0. Reyna went 8.2 innings and allowed 1 run. Darío Gil came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. His record now stands at 2-2. The 4th-place Talons bumped their record to 48-55.
Batting in the bottom of the ninth, 26-year old right fielder Marcial Gómez had a real shot to win the game. Birmingham pitcher Archie Hardy was determined not to let it happen. But with two outs, Gómez hit a run-scoring single. The Talons had a walk-off triumph.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," Gómez said.
