Belfast Drops Another One, 9-5
|
Despite a fine performance by shortstop Justino Santana, the Belfast Bards lost to the Dublin Vikings, 9-5. Santana went 3 for 4 with 2 home runs, while scoring 3 and driving in 2. Fidel Salazar got the win, improving to 8-17. He pitched 8 innings, giving up 7 hits and 5 runs, while striking out 4 and walking 2. The losses continue to add up for Belfast, having now dropped 8 straight.
Alejandro Ramos had a big bases-clearing double for the Vikings in the top of the fifth inning. With Dublin leading 3-1 and the bases loaded, he got a circle change from 24-year old left-handed pitcher Marco Rivas and swatted a double to center. It was his 4th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Vikings ahead, 6-1.
"The tide will turn," said losing manager Dáithí King. "We just need to keep our chins up."
